Hello Everbody, My name's Nick Bassett; I've just joined the Forum and am about to join the Club too. Bought my first Lotus a few days ago. Esprit 1998 GT3 immaculate condition 36,000 miles, from a dealership (Hollingworth's in Kidderminster). On the first day of use, after 100 miles, the engine developed a loud, intrusive tapping sound. The engine power is fine (read: excellent!) and otherwise also sounds great. It's just this tapping sound which I know is not right at all. I'm an engineer by ...

Thought I'd start a thread on the Seven I'm restoring, I bought it in the summer and am hoping to have it finished for next spring.

As bought, it had been highly modified for racing in the past and been off the road since 1985.

It came with a spare chassis which is fortunate as the original was past restoring, even the spare one needed a considerable amount of work. I had it soda blasted first.

All the parts marked with an X needed replacing

And I added in some extra section ...

I came across this short film on another forum. It's brilliant, well it is for those of a certain age.

I counted 4 different Loti racing cars in the film. One of them is a famous car worth shed loads of money now. How great racing was back then when a Ferrari LM car turns up on a trailer towed by a Ford Transit.

1st; Fernando Alonso (Ferrari)

2nd; Lewis Hamilton (McLaren)

3rd; Michael Schumacher (Mercedes)

12th; Heikki Kovalainen (Lotus)

14th; Jarno Trulli (Lotus)

Margaret is threating to dress up and become a "Lycra Babe" just for the race??. Anyone else game for a laugh?? I am sure we can get some good pics for the LDC website.

If anyone out there has an Elise 111S or similiar in the region of £13k please let me know. I don't want to travel for hours but would if something really interesting popped up. I've got the cash and am ready to deal this weekend. My current cars are an E34 M5 3.8 and an ex Honda Revolutions CRX track car.

Wastegate Porting / Crack

After having removed the turbo and manifold to remove some snapped bolts we decided it was best to get the wastegate ported. Once I had the turbo in hand, it was noticed that there was a hairline crack. I have tryed to highlight this in the photo below. I don't think that porting it will remove the crack far enough back. I have just spoken to SJs who said they looked at one this morning and a crack in that position is irrelevant and will only give a slight loss of pressure (if at all).

So a new rad! this time an aluminium tank one.

My Elan M100 is a 1995 built car and has an M plate registration to match this. The car though was not registered in the UK until 2001 (spent it's early years in the Isle of Mann), therefore this is on the V5 document. Why then is the car not on an 01 plate? This goes on ...

The new Lotus Elise probably has the lowest CO2 for its performance for any gasoline high performance sportscar in the world

The Lotus Elise revolutionised the sportscar market 14 years ago when the small lightweight agile 2-seat mid engine sportscar was introduced. By ensuring that the Elise stuck rigidly to Lotus’ core values of performance through light weight, the Elise was able to produce supercar performance with city car economy.

Again this year I'm planning to be at "the Show" in Malvern.

I'd like to make the most of my visit to the Land of Motor Sport so need to know what other events will be taking place, let's say up until the end of May & preferably Historic Racing.

Anything commutable from a Bristol base for a one day'er or an overnight.

Any tips or links welcome.

Thanks

John

P.S. Please don't go upsetting those French Fishermen
